I love brunch – it’s by far my favourite meal of the day and I’d eat it for every meal if I could! I regularly end up having a three course brunch as I just can’t decide between all my favourite things – avocado, french toast, waffles, poached eggs, smoked salmon, pancakes, porridge, pastries, buttered sourdough to name just a few.. with multiple coffees along the way of course! It’s a weekend tradition for me – I love wandering round London on a Saturday to discover new places to eat and spending lazy long Sunday mornings sipping coffee with good food and good company 🙂
I’ve been to so many brunch places, both in London and in other cities so I have no idea where to start with trying to write about them all but I thought I’d start with one of my favourite places which I’ve been to many times. I’ve generally found that the best brunch places seem to be Australian, and this place is no exception – it’s actually named after an iconic Australian plant! There are three locations across London and I’ve been to all three branches – Shoreditch, Fitzrovia and Camden but I’d say Shoreditch is probably my favourite one.
They have all of the brunch classics, but with an Aussie twist. My favourites are toasted courgette bread (with grilled halloumi, streaky bacon, roast tomatoes, poached egg and chilli jam) and the corn fritters (stacked with streaky bacon, fresh spinach, roast tomatoes, smashed avocado, lemon crème fraiche and topped with a poached egg).
For something sweet I love the french toast (with bacon, grilled banana, maple syrup and toasted pecans) which is the perfect combination! I ordered it once and loved it, but had wanted it to be slightly bigger, so the second time I asked for a double portion and.. well.. just look at it below – it was awesome! I love their menu as it combines simple things like poached eggs and avocado (which I love but can’t always justify ordering as it’s just so simple) with their own unique items such as courgette bread, corn bread and potato bread!
As well as food, they serve cocktails, smoothies, juices, tea and coffee and the Shoreditch branch has an incredible selection of cakes in the middle of the cafe. This varies each time but I’ve tried a raspberry blondie, banana bread and a carrot cake muffin, all of which were perfect with coffee.
For people like me who also love the french toast, bacon and maple syrup combination, I’d definitely also recommend The Providores! I went quite a while ago but I’m hoping to go back soon so I can write up a proper blog post on it 🙂
Would I recommend it? Yes!
Worth going out of your way for? Yes
Would I go back? Yep.. and I already have 🙂
