The Table

The Table is an all day restaurant open seven days a week from breakfast until late. Their menu is full of simple classics and I’d seen many amazing pictures of their food on social media so I couldn’t wait to go down and try it. Of course I chose to go for brunch and their menu included all of my favourites, plus a huge selection of waffles and pancakes for round two!

Mae + Harvey aka a blogging disaster!!

I thought long and hard about writing up a post about this place – I thought it wasn’t worth my effort. I didn’t even want to waste my time drafting something. But when I’m in the mood I can write up a post in minutes and this was one of those times when what happened was so ridiculous that I almost feel compelled to document it. It was one of those bizarre, awkward, embarrassing situations that you can’t help but laugh off afterwards. To be honest I almost didn’t bother as I didn’t want to spend time writing something so negative on my blog but when Ban* posted a very aptly timed meme about ‘knowing your self worth’ I decided to try and turn it round into a positive message.

Top golf

Topgolf is a premier golf entertainment venue based in Watford. To be honest I didn’t know anything about it – I hadn’t even heard of it! – but when I was asked if I wanted to go down I thought it sounded like a great idea. I hadn’t a clue what to expect and I’ve never played golf before but I thought if nothing else it sounded like a great activity and it would be cool to try something new. We were invited down to try out their newly launched Eat, Drink, Play deal which includes two games of Topgolf along with a meal and a drink for just ten pounds for children and sixteen pounds for adults. Their food is typical American diner style – the perfect treat food! Think burgers, hot dogs, nachos and chilli cheese fries.. and their dessert menu includes a cookies and cream pie, churros and a ‘colossal ice cream sundae.’ I promise I wasn’t just sold on the food!

Tombo Japanese Café & Matcha Bar

When my mum came down to visit for Mother’s Day I knew I wanted to take her somewhere special and I always think that nothing fits the bill better than afternoon tea. I’ll be honest – I don’t tend to celebrate those ‘commercial rubbish’ days (expensive cards, pointless novelty trinkets and overpriced meals – no thanks!) but sometimes it’s just a good excuse to spoil someone who deserves it. She might be my mum but our tastes in food couldn’t be more different; she’s not into cakes and sweet stuff though – she finds them too sweet and too heavy, and she doesn’t even really like bread! I know what you’re thinking, but I promise we are actually related.. though I have no idea where my appetite or my sweet tooth come from!

Bababoom

Another relatively new addition to the ever growing list of incredible brunch spots serving up Middle-Eastern fare and gourmet kebabs is the aptly named Bababoom – it will blow your mind. How can a place that offers kebabs on pillowy soft flatbreads and Nutella French toast not? And unlimited coffee refills!? An absolute winner in my eyes. I don’t think I’ve ever been to a brunch place that offers unlimited coffee but it’s a seriously good idea, and the perfect excuse for a long, relaxed weekend brunch.
