Social media is incredible isn’t it? It has the power to influence millions of people, spread messages instantly across the globe and to connect communities of likeminded individuals. Yet there are so many negatives. I’ll put my hand up and say I’ve used it many a time to compare my worst parts to everyone else’s highlights. I’m regularly open about the fact that despite feeling like I have a great balance there are times when I’ll feel sick and bloated from overeating and I’ll see someone floating around in a beautiful bikini on a stunning beach with a green juice surrounded by a flock of unicorns having done a 10k run and yes, depending on my mood it may make me feel like crap!
I’m surprised by how many messages I got asking for food requests from New York citizens and foreigners alike – I’m sorry I can’t reply to everyone individually but hopefully this blog post helps!
Although we were only in New York for 5 days and there were many places we didn’t make it to I think we still probably managed to eat what the average couple would’ve got through in a month 😛 So I’ll do my best to list some of my favourites including a few absolute must-visits if you’re only there for a few days!
For a chocolate lover like me, I genuinely don’t think I could imagine a more heavenly way to spend a weekend afternoon than having chocolate afternoon tea. I was lucky enough to be spoilt by one of my closest friends and taken here for a (very!) belated birthday present. We’re both so busy that it’s hard for us to find time to catch up, so spending hours chatting over tea, coffee and cake was absolutely perfect.
After all of the Instagram hype, including apparently being labelled “the most Instagrammable cafe” I was so excited to visit this place. I went with my friends on a chilled Sunday afternoon after brunching at Andina, discovering the most amazing cookies at Mast Brothers and wandering down the beautiful (but absolutely rammed!) Columbia Road flower market. It’s a bit out of the way so we ended up taking the bus – my first ever London bus experience believe it or not!
It’s safe to say that this place needs absolutely no introduction. I’m sure there isn’t a person in the developed world who hasn’t heard of Ladurée macaroons and so to spend my Saturday afternoon in their tea room was the most wonderful belated birthday surprise* 🙂
I thought long and hard about writing up a post about this place – I thought it wasn’t worth my effort. I didn’t even want to waste my time drafting something. But when I’m in the mood I can write up a post in minutes and this was one of those times when what happened was so ridiculous that I almost feel compelled to document it. It was one of those bizarre, awkward, embarrassing situations that you can’t help but laugh off afterwards. To be honest I almost didn’t bother as I didn’t want to spend time writing something so negative on my blog but when Ban* posted a very aptly timed meme about ‘knowing your self worth’ I decided to try and turn it round into a positive message.
