WHAT a month of food! I feel like I’m spoilt for good food every month, but some of the places I went to this month were some of the best I’ve tried all year! It was pretty hard to narrow it down, but these were some of my favourites! Continue reading September highlights
Although I love writing, I’m finding less and less time to do it these days, and I often find that I have neither the time nor the inclination to write up a long post about one place, unless it’s truly special! There have been so many times that I’ve come across a lovely cafe or coffee shop that I simply don’t have enough content to write a whole blog post on, or I might even have just eaten one incredible thing that I felt I had to share.. so I’m going to try and make the effort to write up posts with little snippets of smaller things I wanted to share 🙂 So onto some of July’s highlights..
When it comes to cake, there’s no denying that we Londoners are spoilt to pieces! From the absolutely stunning (but slightly overhyped!) cupcakes and layer cakes served up amongst flawless pink and floral décor at some of London’s most “Instagrammable” spots, to tiny little cafes and coffee shops offering tray bakes, loaf cakes and beautifully rustic home-style bakes, London has it all. As possibly my favourite baked item (after cookies!), I’ve probably had more cakes than any other type of food in London, but it’s rare that I walk into a small coffee shop and am truly blown away by their counter! Most coffee shops have a fairly modest offering – with pastries, simple cookies, brownies or (often very sorry looking!) loaf cakes, but to find homemade cakes this impressive is definitely something I sadly rarely ever see in coffee shops around London.
At the end of Summer last year (yes I know.. this is so late that it’s pretty much Summer 2018 now, but better late than never!) we headed up North and decided to plan a day trip somewhere to discover some food places outside of London! We’d been tempted to go to the seaside – I have some seriously fond memories of stuffing my face with hot, fresh sugared donuts in Blackpool or Magpie fish and chips (which I understand is currently closed due to a fire! 😦 ) in Whitby, but we eventually decided to go somewhere new (and somewhere that had plenty of indoorsy things to do should the great British weather decide to fail us (it predictably did!).
A question I get asked all too frequently is ‘what’s your favourite place to eat in London’ and I’m afraid I simply just can’t answer that! There are SO many incredible places to eat in London to suit all preferences and depending on my mood I can be craving anything from a giant pizza, an ice cream sundae bigger than my head or the most incredible hummus and falafel salad from Chickpea.
When cookie dough is done well, it’s hard to imagine a more perfect treat! I am a self-proclaimed cookie monster – along with cakes they’re probably my favourite baked item – and usually my first choice from any supermarket bakery (unless I’m at Morrisons in which case their incredible donuts always seem to find their way into my trolley!).
